The Los Angeles Kings will honor longtime announcer Nick Nickson before tonight’s game against the Arizona Coyotes at Staples Center in the first of their three-game Legends Night Series for the 2015-16 season.

Nickson will be honored one day after receiving the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award in Toronto for outstanding contributions as a hockey broadcaster.

The award recipient is selected by the NHL Broadcasters’ Association. The award is named in honor of the longtime announcer for “Hockey Night in Canada.”

A plaque honoring Nickson is displayed in the Esso Great Hall at the Hockey Hall of Fame alongside past award recipients.

Nickson joined the Kings in 1981 as the analyst for their radio and television broadcasts. He became the radio play-by-play announcer in 1990 when the team dropped simulcasts in favor of separate radio and television broadcasts.

Nickson has broadcast more than 3,000 Kings games.

Fans are encouraged to arrive to their seats early. All fans in attendance will receive a commemorative Nick Nickson pin. The ceremony will be shown on Fox Sports West.

The Kings will wear their vintage Forum blue and gold jerseys with the crown emblem for all three Legends Night Series games, the only times they will wear those jerseys this season.

The other Legends Night Series games will be on Feb. 23, when Mike Donnelly, a Kings left wing from 1990-95, is honored, and March 7, when Jimmy Carson, a Kings center from 1986-88 and 1992-94, is honored.
