Mount Sinai Memorial Parks and Mortuaries Invites all to Free High Holiday Service

Mount Sinai Memorial Parks and Mortuaries’ free Kever Avot Community Memorial Services on Sunday, September 12, 2010 will focus on the important lesson to “not stand idly†by while others suffer abuse and genocide when Janice Kamenir-Reznik delivers the keynote presentation. Kamenir-Reznik is the Co-Founder and President of Jewish World Watch which works to alleviate suffering in Darfur and among other persecuted peoples.

Scheduled to begin at Mount Sinai Hollywood Hills at 10:00 A.M. and at Mount Sinai Simi Valley at 1:00 P.M., these one hour Jewish High Holiday Services augment a traditional time in Jewish life to visit the gravesites of loved ones. Mount Sinai invites community members to attend and worship, whether their loved ones are buried here or elsewhere.

Free of charge Kever Avot Services will include a special prayer for healing and will be augmented by the music of Sinai Temple’s Cantor Joseph Gole at Mount Sinai Hollywood Hills and by Cantor Arianne Brown in the Kamenir Chapel, Mount Sinai Simi Valley. The Sinai Temple Choir, directed by Aryell Cohen, will offer musical accompaniment. Services will end with the tradition of blowing the shofar, a ram’s horn which is an ancient call to action, and the Kaddish prayer in remembrance of loved ones. Donations to the SOVA Food Pantry will be accepted that day to help the hungry and homeless.

“I want to extend a welcome to you, your loved ones, your friends, and anyone you know to join us in remembrance at Mount Sinai Simi Valley or Mount Sinai Hollywood Hills for Kever Avot Community Memorial Services†said Leonard Lawrence, Mount Sinai General Manager. Giving added depth and meaning to Services at Simi Valley will be the display of Mount Sinai’s Shoah Quilts of Memory, dedicated to remembrance of the Holocaust.
