The Channel Islands Chapter of the California Native Plant Society presents its second annual Native Plant Landscape Symposium on February 12, 2011 , from 8 a .m. to 4 p.m. With the surge in interest in growing natives, we’ve received many requests to repeat last year’s wildly successful symposium. Thanks to the foundation’s continued generosity, we will meet again at the Barn of the Camarillo Ranch House Foundation.
This year we have John Greenlee, author of The American Meadow Garden and founder of Greenlee Nursery. He will show how to combine native grasses, flowering plants and bulbs to create beautiful meadow gardens.
Bob Perry, landscape architect and author of the recently published Landscape Plants for California Gardens, will talk on how to apply concepts from natural ecosystems to achieve sustainable landscape designs.
Lili Singer, Special Project Coordinator for the Theodore Payne Foundation and one of the best known speakers on gardening with natives, will talk about the wealth of resources available to the native plant gardener.
Pamela Berstler, co-founder of G3 The Green Gardens Group, will talk on “Urban Watershed Restoration through Ocean Friendly Gardens ,†– ocean friendly principles to apply in your gardens.
David L. Magney, botanist, Certified Arborist and environmental consultant, will present over 50 native trees appropriate for our local landscapes.
Lunch is included and will be designed, once again, by Chef Carrie Clough. The cost is $45 for CNPS members, $60 for the General Public. Register by February 5. Find the registration form at www.cnpsci.org. Contact Janet Takara jntakara@yahoo.com for more information.
