PACIFIC PALISADES NEWS

PCC Forum on Pacific Palisades
Chabad Pre-School Site
Palisades residents and Chabad of Pacific Palisades turned out in force at the Pacific Palisades Community Council meeting on September 25. On the agenda was the possible temporary location of the Chabad preschool at 17000 Sunset Boulevard. Residents from Malibu Village Mobile Home Park, which abuts the property on a bluff below, representatives from the Los Angeles Department of Transportation, Norman Kulla from the office of Bill Rosendahl, and representatives from Chabad, the Depatment of Building and Safety and the Planning Department all came together to discuss the situation.

Traffic problems associated with picking up and dropping off children at the location and possible geological instability on the bluff near Marquez Place were some of the concerns being discussed.

“The meeting was a fabulous success,†said Pacific Palisades Community Chair Richard Cohen. “Both sides were fully able to express the concerns. It was a triumph of community.â€

Northern District Director for Los Angeles City Councilman Bill Rosendahl’s office Norman Kulla agreed. “Richard (Cohen) did a superlative job,†he said.

The Pacific Palisades Community Council approved a motion to require a traffic study and a traffic plan to be submitted for approval. A plan will be submitted to LADOT for approval. Geologists have reviewed the site and given their approval.

Chabad is seeking permission to locate two modular classrooms on the vacant lot to service 20 students with 15 parking spaces.

Bloomies in bloom
Macerich has announced that Bloomingdales is coming to Santa Monica Place.

September 10, the nations largest owners, operators and developers of regional shopping centers announced that Bloomingdales is coming in to Santa Monica Place.

Bloomingdale’s is a nationwide upscale department store and a division of Macy’s Inc. The current Macy’s will be closing in February of 2009 for a complete renovation.

Bloomingdale’s will be in good company; it will join Nordstrom as the anchors at the mall. The decision reflects interests expressed by the community to create a more fashion-forward shopping experience for the mall.

Santa Monica Place, adjacent to the Third Street Promenade, is now undergoing a complete transformation. Macerich is creating a three-level, open-air environment with a signature dining court on the top level where visitors can enjoy sea views and fresh ocean breezes.
