Following the vision of Founder and Artistic Director Mark Carlson, Pacific Serenades has flourished with a rich and varied oeuvre of some 106 commissioned pieces since it began in 1982, more than any other group of its kind in this country.
This season’s new works are by famed 4-time Emmy award winning composer, Laura Karpman; Pacific Serenades founder, Mark Carlson; Van Nuys native, composer for television, and veteran cool-jazz artist Duane Tatro; and eclectic jazz-versed guitarist/composer, Justin Morrel, who was raised in Los Angeles and now resides on Portland, Oregon.
Other composers featured during the season include, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Poulenc, Ravel, Schumann, Schubert, Joseph Suk, and Wolf.
Program One (January 28, 29, 31, and February 1), “Tendrils,” features the world premiere of Laura Karpman’s new work for string quartet; Beethoven’s String Quartet in D major, Op. 18, No. 3; and Ravel’s Sonata for Violin & Cello. Musicians are Movses Pogossian, violin; Connie Kupka, violin; Brian Dembow, viola; and David Speltz, cello; The January 28 Opening Night concert will be held at the home of Trice Koopman & Mark Freund in Pacific Palisades.
The first concert series is Saturday, January 28 at 8pm, Sunday, January 29 at 4pm at the Pasadena Neighborhood Church, Tuesday, January 31 at 8pm at the UCLA Faculty Center, and Wednesday, February 1 at 8pm at the New West Hollywood Library.
