Repairs to a section of the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) caused by the strong waves that damaged Malibu’s landmark pier this month that also ate away at rocks will start today.
Caltrans issued a warning that one eastbound lane on PCH will be closed for four hours today for one half mile at La Tuna Beach, at Malibu’s eastern end between Big Rock and Topanga Creek.
Temporary K-rail concrete barriers near the highway must be repositioned to prevent them from falling into the ocean, state officials said.
One lane of eastbound PCH will be blocked off from 9 am until 1 pm today as Caltrans crews repair the damage.
The erosion is at La Tuna Beach County Park, a stretch of rocky bluffs that has been battered by the sea for decades. It is the only large parking and public access point along the ocean in eastern Malibu.
In addition, commuters are warned that a heavily used ramp connecting PCH to Santa Monica will be closed for one month starting today. The City of
Santa Monica is conducting major repairs on Moomat Ahiko Street, the short street that serves as ramps to and from Ocean Avenue to PCH, next to the McClure Tunnel.
