Rachel Staples is one of the area artists participating in Theatrefication, the event that will kick off the City of Los Angeles’ centennial celebration of the theaters in its Historic Broadway District.
Staples will lend her operatic talents to “ET Mostavy”, a short form electronic opera by Helene Federici, which is one of two avant-garde musical theater productions being presented at the event. The other production is the premiere of David J’s chilling new play with live music inspired by the Black Dahlia murder, “The Chanteuse and the Devil’s Muse”.
Staples is a performer, musician, composer, songwriter and teacher. Her unique approach to vocal coaching combines classical technique with contemporary yoga-like movements; an exercise in breathing and control.
Staples’ credits include Puccini’s Madame Butterfly and Bizet’s Carmen with the Opera Company of North Carolina, Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte and Vacci’s I Capuleti e i Montecchi with the Florida State Opera. She opened the 2009 Downtown Los Angeles Fashion Week Runway shows with an operatic performance right on the runway. Her vocals can be heard on Spider Man 3.
Staples has produced two albums with Punch Pro Productions called, Maiden Lane and HollyWierdHiphOperaTunities. Rachel is currently working on her the foundations of her third album.
She owns OperaTune Vocal Studios in Beverly Hills, and works in Admissions for The American Musical & Dramatic Academy with campuses located in Los Angeles and New York City.
