Starting at 9:00am on Saturday, July 16, 2011 the Santa Monica College track will become a battlefield in the fight against cancer when teams of people camp out and take turns walking or running around a track for 24 hours straight, signifying the fact that cancer doesn’t rest, and neither will those who fight it.
The 2011 Santa Monica Relay will also feature food trucks, live music, prize giveaways, a silent auction, food and drink, kids’ activities and various ceremonies honoring loved ones lost to cancer and celebrating local survivors, caregivers and medical professionals.
This year’s Relay efforts are being led by Event Chair Mollie Vandor and American Cancer Society Relay Manager Robert Harrison.
“We’ve got some amazing food trucks coming from West Coast Finest Catering – Calbi, Grilled Cheese Patrol and Fishlips will all be there,†said Vandor. “We’ve also got an amazing roster of bands, activities ranging from kickball to massages, and raffle prizes from incredible local businesses including Hotel Erwin, Exhale Spa and more and all the proceeds go to a great cause!â€
Registration is free and anyone can participate as an individual; walk-ins can register the morning of the event as well. The Relay is also open to people who don’t want to walk, and just want to come enjoy the festivities and donate to the cause. There’s no charge for admission.
