Santa Monica Baykeeper will provide visitors the opportunity to get a feel for the live species the organization and its volunteers work to protect at the Abbott Kinney Street Festival in Venice on Sunday September 25, 2011 10:00am – 6:00pm.
Santa Monica Baykeeper will host an educational touch-and-feel box activity at its booth where children can use their sense of touch to identify key members of the marine food web surrounding local kelp forests. From urchins to sea otters to water pollution, the hands-on exhibit offers a valuable way to introduce children to the significance of a balanced ecosystem and the opportunity to learn what Baykeeper volunteer scuba divers are doing to restore valuable coastal resources.
Los Angeles artist Marina Debris also will be on hand to display her beach trash sculptures.
The not-for-profit organization founded in 1993, works to protect and restore the Santa Monica Bay, San Pedro Bay and adjacent waters through enforcement, fieldwork and community action. The organization works to achieve this goal through litigation and regulatory programs that ensure water quality protections in waterways throughout Los Angeles County.
