Babies, kids and teens can uncover exciting stories and fascinating facts this summer at the Santa Monica Public Library while earning prizes for the amount of time they spend reading (or being read to)!
This year’s summer reading program encourages youngsters to delve into their imaginations with the themes Dig Into Reading for children, and Beneath the Surface for teens. Beginning Saturday, June 8, kids, teens, and parents of babies can sign up at the Main Library, 601 Santa Monica Boulevard, or any one of the branch locations for one of the following summer reading programs:
•Baby & Me Club – for babies ages 0 to 17 months and their caregivers
•Read to Me Club – for children ages 18 months to 6 years
•Independent Readers Club – for children ages 6 and up
•Teen Reading Club – for teens in grades 6 to 12
Enhancing the summer reading program are activities for kids and teens offered at the Main Library and all branch locations this summer, including story times, puppet and magic shows, animal shows, writing, art and craft programs, music, dance, balloons and bubbles and much, much more.
According to the American Library Association, numerous studies show that summer reading programs help ensure that children retain reading and learning skills over the summer. Most of all, however, summer reading programs are geared for reading for the fun of it.
The summer reading program is made possible through the generous support from the Friends of the Santa Monica Public Library.
