Santa Monica Place Grand Opening Celebration

Friday, Aug. 6 – Opening Day
10 am: Grand Opening Celebration at Santa Monica Place!
It’s fun, it’s visual, it’s everything but a traditional ribbon-cutting, and you’ve never seen a bounce like this: Join KCRW DJ/Music Director Jason Bentley for this incredible, musical, beach-inspired celebration – with a special live performance by The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers-LXD (as seen on The Oscars and So You Think You Can Dance) (Main Level Plaza)

The Mannequin Collective – Aug. 6-22
The Mannequin Collective, an original art exhibit launching Aug. 6, showcases 100+ mannequins made into works of art to benefit Otis College of Art and Design. See fantastic and outrageous designs from Cirque du Soleil, the Los Angeles Zoo, Geffen Playhouse and an array of other cultural institutions, retailers and local artists. (Throughout Santa Monica Place)

Special retailer hosted-events throughout the day and the weekend
Celebrities will be among the many attractions at special in-store events hosted by retailers including Bloomingdale’s, Nike, Disney, Charlotte Russe and more. Check retailer web sites, santamonicaplace.com and Facebook for more details in real time.

10 am-5 pm: DJ Vala accompanied by a live percussionist will perform an eclectic mix throughout the day (Main Level Plaza 10 am-1 pm; Dining Deck 1 pm-5 pm)

11 am-1 pm: Homegrown artist Pharoe begins creating an organic, garden-themed custom mural (3rd Level across from Ozumo)

1 pm: The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers-LXD offers an encore live performance (Level 3)

2 pm-4 pm: Outer Circle Crew – live hip hop dance performance (Main Level Plaza and throughout Santa Monica Place)

The Art of the Beach – interactive beach-inspired art activities invite guests of all ages to create their own colorful spin-art Frisbees and note cards, as well as layered sand-art bracelets (2nd Level)

4 pm-7 pm: Artist Pharoe continues creating his organic mural (3rd Level across from Ozumo)
5 pm-7pm: SunSets with KCRW DJ Jason Bentley (KCRW Music Director and Host of Morning Becomes Eclectic), who will spin a live, two-hour set during Happy Hour (Dining Deck)

Saturday, Aug. 7
10 am-5 pm: DJ Vala accompanied by a live percussionist will perform throughout the day (Main Level Plaza 10 am-1 pm; Dining Deck 1 pm-5 pm)

11 am-1 pm: The Art of the Beach – interactive beach-inspired art activities invite guests of all ages to create their own, colorful spin-art Frisbees and note cards (2nd Level)

Artist Pharoe continues creating his garden-themed mural (3rd Level across from Ozumo)

2 pm-4 pm: Caribbean Heat – live calypso and limbo dance performance (Main Level Plaza)

2 pm-4 pm: Dan Zeff y El Baile Flamenco – Spanish Flamenco dancing accompanied by renowned classical guitarist Dan Zeff (Main Level near Bloomingdale’s)

6 pm-8 pm: Stephanie Quayle, the LA-based Country Music recording artist, performs her original music live (Dining Deck)
