SMMUSD Save our Schools Campaign Reaches $1 Million Mark

For more information see www.smmusd.org
The SMMUSD is racing toward an August 15th deadline to restore the positions lost to State funding cuts. Thus far, they have raised enough to restore 12 of these positions but there are still 48 to go.

“Our work is not done!†says Linda Gross, Executive Director of the Santa Monica-Malibu Education Foundation, who announced the Foundation’s latest goal; to raise an additional$300,000 before the campaign’s end on August 15th.

“If Save Our Schools is able to meet this goal, class sizes will decrease for even more students, libraries will stay open nearly full-time and the 4th and 5th grade music program could be fully restored,†Gross continued. In addition, four more positions could be restored. †It will make a world of difference for our kids,†says Gross.

As part of the new campaign, Montana Avenue shoppers have a chance to improve their wardrobes through Friday, August 6th simply by shopping at participating stores thanks to the “Lemon-8-Days†on Montana Avenue fundraiser.

Participating merchants will donate 8% of gross sales for the week to benefit the Save Our Schools campaign. For a list of participating merchants go to: http://savesantamonicamalibuschools.org/SOSmontana.html
