Success . . . Achievement – What Does it Mean for our Children?

Alfie Kohn, Educator and Author
The Willows Community School will host an evening with internationally acclaimed speaker and educator, Alfie Kohn on Wednesday, January 11, 2012, at 7:00 pm in The Willows Community School Theater, 8509 Higuera Street, Culver City, 90232.

Mr. Kohn will speak on the topic Pushed Too Hard: Parenting in an Achievement-Crazy Culture. This event is free and open to the public.

A leading figure in progressive education, Mr. Kohn is the author of 12 books including Unconditional Parenting: Moving From Rewards and Punishments to Love and Reason, The Homework Myth, and most recently Feel Bad Education: And Other Contrarian Essays on Children and Schooling, as well as hundreds of articles on education, parenting and human behavior.

Mr. Kohn, a former teacher, has a constructivist view of education, where students construct knowledge through projects, questions and problems, rather than absorb information. His criticisms of competition and rewards, standardized testing and assessment are shaping the thinking of educators in the U.S. and internationally. Published in Education Week, The Huffington Post, The Atlantic, Parents Magazine, Harvard Business Review, Mr. Kohn has a B.A. from Brown University and an M.A. from the University of Chicago.
