The summer is heating up just in time for the 4th of July and the water is the perfect place to cool down. To have safe swimming fun and prevent drowning as the summer heats up remember the 3 S’s for Swimming Safety:
1. Supervision: Watch your children in, on, and around the water. Even the best of supervision can be spotty, as everyone is subject to phone calls, texts, conversations, and internal distractions (cognitive and/or emotional interference). Practice active, in-water, touch supervision with your children this summer.
2. Suit-up: Suit-up children in properly-fitting U.S. Coast Guard life jackets in swimming pools too – if your child can’t comfortably and competently swim a length of the pool. Life jackets also help accustom non-swimmers to the water.
3. Swim Lessons: All children should learn to swim so they can safely enjoy the water for a lifetime. If adults can’t swim, learn now!
