Teens on Stage

Teens on StageIn the business of teaching tots, youth and tweens the art of musical theater for over 23 years, Kids on Stage has expanded its core program to encompass and embrace the Teenage Actor age 12 – 16 in their Summer Camps, Summer Afternoon Workshops and After School Programs. Creative Director Cari Durbise said “Expanding KOS to encompass Teens on Stage provides a needed forum in the community where teens can actively develop their minds and talents, staying focused on positive outlets†.

These varied programs are suited for young actors who wish to develop a stronger foundation of their craft thru scene study, cold reading, comedy drama, classical, stage combat, audition techniques, innovative skits, stand-up routines and character development. Teen actors, budding Comedians and Thespians learn to hit their mark while collaborating and reheTeens on Stagearsing either a popular musical, delving into Shakespeare or developing comedy skits. Musical Theater classes, involve acting, dancing, singing, chorography, theater games, theme days and challenging goals. Materials selected for the Teens are carefully chosen to engage a teen perspective. Teen programs are conducted in Santa Monica at a reputable community theater.

The Professional teaching staff resumes include working prime time actors, American Repertory Theater Harvard University and UC Berkeley Theater Graduates. Beth Galanty-Blaney, KOS Director expanded “Many High Schools no longer offer electives such as theater or arts, or curriculum restrictions force children to chose one. Theater offers a safe stage where teens can inspire and encourage each other. KOS provides option for those teens who have an interest or passion for the perTeens on Stageforming arts†.
