Tennis player Robert Ellis, 88, debuts novel Courage to Love

Courage to Love author Robert Ellis poses in his garden with his tennis racket and new novel
Courage To Love, a novel torn from current headlines, about love during the war in the Middle East, by Robert Ellis, was published this summer as a paperback and audio book, and is available wherever books are sold.

“Not since Nobel winner Elie Wiesel, has an author distilled these conflicts into such human terms, stated Hollywood writer-director Bill Birrell, who narrated the audio book.

Written by former war correspondent and Ebony magazine editor, Robert Ellis, Courage to Love tells of an American Israeli lieutenant from South Carolina and a teenage Palestinian freedom fighter living in the Gaza Strip. Under the spell of music during a Mideast hospital attack, they are thrown together and attracted to each other. As their budding love grows, the youngsters are forced to contend with their serious wounds, their different religious upbringings, and the stern commands of their families.

“Courage to Love pays attention and respect to the different religions, customs and languages,†editor and reviewer K. Cannery, wrote in the book’s foreword, “It shows how even in the most extreme cases of hatred, peace and love can be found. Its ripe content makes it a story of interest to everyone.â€

Ellis, an 88 year-old tennis player, believes the book will be valuable to teenagers, religious and educational institutions. On his website, Couragetolovetheblog.com, he stated, “To arrest the leakage of war, money and lives spreading from the Middle East onto the shores of the entire world — we need to consider three facts. One, that science tells us the blood in our bodies can be interchanged to heal, each with each other. Two, that the Bible tells us men and women in all their faiths, are descended of one spiritual family. Three, we must learn to suspend our own prejudices and start to walk the walk and talk the talk of life on earth for all of us.â€

Available at internet sites and bookstores, Courage to Love, due to its cross-cultural outreach, published by Tate Publishers, has also been selected for sale at numerous temples, churches, and hospitals. The book can be ordered from: Amazon.com.

Ellis will be in store October 2nd (3 pm) at Borders Bookstore for book signings, 1360 Westwood Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90024. For families passionate about tennis, the author can also sign your tennis rackets too.
