THE 7TH ANNUAL JENNNIFER DIAMOND CELEBRITY REGATTA RETURNS TO THE DEL REY YACHT CLUB IN MARINA DEL REY

THE 7TH ANNUAL JENNNIFER DIAMOND CELEBRITY REGATTA RETURNS TO THE DEL REY YACHT CLUB IN MARINA DEL REY

Zac Sunderland, Youngest Person to Circumnavigate the Globe, Joins the Festivities on August 22, 2009

The 7th Annual Jennifer Diamond Celebrity Sailboat Regatta takes place once again at the Del Rey Yacht Club in Marina Del Rey, to benefit the Jennifer Diamond Cancer Foundation. This year, very special guests will join the fun – 17 year old Zac Sunderland (www.zacsunderland.com), who just became the youngest person to circumnavigate the globe on his 36’ sailboat, the Intrepid – who will be joined by his 15 year old sister, Andrea, who plans to attempt the same feat in 2010. Zac looks forward to this exciting event which will be the second regatta in which he has participated.

There will be pre and post-race activities at the Yacht Club, including the Skipper’s & Sailor’s party following the race. The public is invited to not only view the terrific race; they can also contribute $16 to the Foundation and enjoy the delicious barbecue following the race, at approximately 4:30PM. The day’s events are hosted by Harvey and Alice Diamond, parents of Jennifer Diamond, and founders of the foundation named in her honor. Jennifer passed away from a rare form of cancer. The Foundation strives to bring awareness about cancer and supplies libraries to various facilities, with the latest information on cancer detection, treatments and support, thus providing the tools to treat the mind and body as one.

Three classes of sailboats will be participating in the 2009 Regatta: Class A, Class B and Cruising Class, determined by the configuration of the boat. Racing keelboats and cruiser keelboats are also invited to participate. Costs to participate range from only $64 to $90 depending on the size of the boat.

Availability on the spectator boats (free with donations welcome) is limited and will be on a first come first served basis. Arrival should be 10:30AM for the noon race.

For reservations and additional information: Harvey@jenniferdiamondfoundation.org or 818.700.6900.
