Tower Cancer Research Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to cutting edge cancer therapy and research, will host the first in a series of free symposiums on October 19. The 2010 Tower Oncology Fall Cancer Symposium – Advances in Breast Cancer Research and Treatment: A Multidisciplinary Panel Discussion – will take place from 6:30-8:30pm at Wolfgang’s Steakhouse on 445 N. Canon Drive in Beverly Hills.

The symposium will feature in-depth presentations from Tower Hematology Oncology Medical Group physicians and other specialists on new breast cancer treatment options, the importance of early screening, and the latest news on clinical trial research. In addition, attendees will have the opportunity to pose questions to the panel and also be treated to free appetizers and non-alcoholic beverages.

“With October recognized as breast cancer awareness month, we felt this would be an ideal time to kick off our symposium series and help educate the community on breast cancer,†said Dr. Barry Rosenbloom, Managing Partner at Tower. “This symposium is for anyone who has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer, is currently being treated, or knows someone with breast cancer and is simply interested in learning more about the disease.â€

Panelists for the October 19 symposium will include:

• Philomena McAndrew, M.D. – Medical Oncologist and Symposium Moderator, Tower Hematology Oncology Medical Group

• May Lin Tao, M.D. – Radiation Oncologist, The Center for Radiation Therapy of Beverly Hills

• Farin Amersi, M.D. – Surgical Oncologist, Saul & Joyce Brandman Breast Center at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center
• Peter Lee, M.D., Ph.D. – Acting Medical Director, Tower Cancer Research Foundation

“We are excited to have the opportunity to share the latest in breast cancer research and treatment with our community,†said Dr. Philomena McAndrew. “Sharing our knowledge with the public is a big part of Tower’s mission and I believe the people who attend our symposium will walk away with a better understanding of breast cancer.â€
