Vista Del Mar Child and Family Services Awarded $763,000 Grant from UnitedHealth Group

Vista Del Mar Child and Family Services, one of the nation’s leading child welfare and mental health services centers , along with UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UNH), today announced a $763,000 grant from UnitedHealth Group . The grant will fund the implementation of Vista Del Mar’s electronic medical records system. This system will play a key role in enabling Vista Del Mar to provide the best possible care to Southern California children and families in need.

Vista Del Mar will use the UnitedHealth Group grant to purchase and install the hardware, software, and related equipment needed to make the nonprofit agency’s health records system fully electronic. Grant funds also will be directed toward training more than 450 Vista Del Mar staff members who will be utilizing the new electronic system, as well as toward supporting staff positions, including project managers and a new database administrator. Once the new electronic health records system is operational, not only will Vista Del Mar be able to more efficiently and effectively deliver a comprehensive spectrum of mental health services to children and families in need, but the organization also will be in complete compliance with Los Angeles County’s Mental Health Services Act mandating that mental health service providers have electronic records systems in place.

“We’re extremely appreciative of the generous grant we received from UnitedHealth Group,†said Elias Lefferman, Ph.D., president and chief executive officer of Vista Del Mar Child and Family Services. “These funds will be used to create an agency-wide, electronic health records system that will enable Vista Del Mar to provide the highest quality, most coordinated, mental health services to the 6,000 children and families that we serve annually. Delivering the best possible care is always our overriding goal, and this grant unquestionably will contribute to that goal.”

“We applaud Vista Del Mar for their continued support and commitment to serving Southern California children and families in need and we are pleased to collaborate with them on such a vital initiative,†noted Steve Nelson, CEO, Western Region of UnitedHealthcare. “Electronic medical records play a critical role in helping improve patient care and safety. We are pleased this grant will help expand this technology to help those in need.â€
