Vista Del Mar to host Groundbreaking Autism Conference for Parents and Professionals

A day long conference will be held at Vista Del Mar’s West Los Angeles campus (3200 Motor Ave.)from 8am-4pm on November 12th. Presentations include:

Barry Prizant, Ph.D., CCP-SLP, internationally recognized for his leading-edge research and educational programming for children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Most recently, Dr. Prizant developed the SECRETS® Model (social communication, emotional regulation, and transactional support) which provides a framework to directly address the core challenges experienced by children with ASD;

Stephen Shore, Ed.D., who is the acclaimed author of Beyond the Wall: Personal Experiences with Autism and Aspergers Syndrome, Ask and Tell: Self-advocacy and Disclosure for People on the Autism Spectrum, and Understanding Autism for Dummies, consults internationally on issues of concern to the autism community and offers a unique perspective as an adult with autism.

There will also be a workshop entitled, “Innovation: Unlocking Children’s Potential Through the Arts”—a workshop presented by Vista Inspire Program Creative Director Elaine Hall along with Dr. Prizant and Dr. Shore.

Following lunch, autism activists Carol and Harvey Lapin will be honored, and the conference will conclude with “Weaving Together Innovation, Intervention and Inspiration”—an interdisciplinary panel membered by Pat Grayson-DeJong, M.Ed.; Barry Prizant, Ph.D.; Susan Schmidt-Lackner, M.D.; Laurie Stephens, Ph.D.; and Julia Ann Singer Center Program Director Dyan Colven, Psy.D.
