Voting Begins on Free Wireless Internet for LA Westside

The Free Broadband project has been selected by Pepsi Refresh, who is conducting public voting on the idea during the month of May.

Open Neighborhoods has proposed a Free Broadband neighborhood grant from Pepsi to bring free broadband Internet service to numerous residential, commercial and school locations on the Westside of Los Angeles, including under-served low income housing areas.

US residents aged 13 and over are eligible to vote for the Free Broadband project once per day through the end of May at www.refresheverything.com/freebroadband. For more details visit www.openneighborhoods.net/freebroadband.

Mar Vista residents James Brennan and John Ayers co-founded Open Neighborhoods to connect local communities and help bridge the digital divide with open Internet access to deliver information, community support, employment and education opportunities to the entire community.

Open Neighborhoods is a member organization of InternetForEveryone.org, a national initiative to bring the benefits of a fast, affordable and open Internet connection to everyone in America.

“We applaud local communities who are stepping up and getting involved in expanding wireless broadband services to their neighbors,†said Misty Perez Truedson, InternetForEveryone.org program manager at Free Press. “Los Angeles will benefit greatly from this project, and more of its community members will have much-needed access to the Internet.†Free Press is a national, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization working to promote diverse and independent media ownership, strong public media, quality journalism, and universal access to communications.
