Be Your own DJ on Your Own Station!

Recently, I had the great pleasure of speaking with Tim Westergren, founder and brains behind the wildly popular Internet radio station, Pandora.com. Pandora is a unique online radio station that allows you to be your own DJ. You tell it the songs you like, the artists you like, and not only will it begin to play those tunes for you, but it will also select other songs and artists that have a similar “feel.â€

Pandora has over 50 people working daily listening to music, scoring and categorizing songs from more than 400 attributes. These attributes allow Pandora to learn what the feel of your favorite music is and helps you find similar music.

Start out by visiting www.pandora.com and sign up for a free account. Then, type in an artist or a song that you want to be the theme for your new “station.†The songs will play one by one, and it is up to you to give each song a “thumbs up†or  “thumbs down.†With more than half a million songs in its library and 14,000 being added each month, Pandora will continually find other tunes to fit right in to your new station.

The more you listen, the more your station will have the sound you like, with the music you like. You will also be introduced to music that, more than likely, you are not familiar with, but that you may just love.

Create multiple stations, rename them and even share them with friends. Yup – a few clicks and all your listening results can be sent to anyone you like for their listening pleasure. Oh, how do you listen?  It couldn’t be easier. You can simply listen online, on your iPhone, or on some Sprint phones and AT&T phones. Expect more portable devices to become available soon.

Gone are the days of loud DJs and long blocks of endless commercials blasting away at your delicate eardrums! Gone are the days when you are at the mercy of a guy at a microphone at some radio station to choose the songs you want to hear!
