The Tesla is Finally Here!
By COLIN RYAN
The first-ever Los Angeles Tesla store has opened its doors at the intersection of Santa Monica and Sepulveda (just near the 405). With its gabled wooden ceilings and stylish décor, the showroom looks likes an upscale lounge. Patrons can drink coffee and enjoy free wi-fi while checking out the popular roadster.
Just as the two-seater sports car is unconventional–powered completely by electricity, made from carbon fiber–so is the place where it is sold.
“One of the very first things you’ll notice about our new store is that the service area is side-by-side with the showroom and connected to it in a
very open way,†said the store’s General Manager, Tom O’Leary. “Electric cars are cleaner around the shop. Less oil, no fumes. We knew our service area would be a showpiece, so we figured, why not put it out front where everyone can see.â€
The staff members are on salary, so no badgering for a commission. Instead they let the car do the talking.
So if you’d like to have something in common with some of the high-profilers, like George Clooney, who have already purchased the car, hurry up and put in an order. The Tesla Roadster costs around $109,000 and there’s a 16-month waiting list.
